The 58th Statement, A platform, movement and community.
Welcome to the official 58th Statement website.
The 58th Statement originally named Urban Declaration, began as a general conversation, the founder (Kemi) had with various of her friends.
Within conversations, she noticed that her friends were firstly, dealt with issues such as that were not spoken about in mainstream conversations (both offline and online).
Secondly, she noticed international issues her friends discussed about, were also not being broadcasted on big networks.
As a result of those conversations, Urban Declaration was born. A space were conversations could be made, for those neglected in mainstream conversation.
Now, rebranded under the name the 58th Statement, the ethos and aim of Urban Declaration has not really changed.
Most importantly, the brand aims to:
– Create conversations for and (by) marginalised peoples.
–Elevate peoples Knowledge
–Transform peoples Perspective
–Provide Impactful and Powerful stories
Moreover, founded on Christian beliefs. The 58th Statement derives for the bible passage Isaiah 58, which demands, we live a life focused on restorative and retributive justice.
In addition, while social justice, means various things to political and social groups.
Social justice at the 58th Statement is defined as:
Restorative and Retributive justice, giving back to others, what they were intended to own
